How to Change Password of a User Account via WHM
How to Change a WHM/cPanel User Account Password
As a server administrator, you may need to change a cPanel user’s password for security reasons, to assist a user who has lost access, or for general account management. This process is straightforward and can be completed quickly through the WHM interface.
Step 1: Log In to WHM
First, you must log in to your WebHost Manager (WHM). You need root-level access to perform this action. The WHM login page is typically accessed via your server’s IP address or hostname on port 2087 (e.g., https://your-server-ip:2087
).
Step 2: Navigate to Password Modification
Once you are logged in, use the search bar on the left-hand side of the WHM interface. Type “Password Modification” and select the option that appears under the Account Functions section.
Step 3: Select the User Account
On the Password Modification page, you will see a list of all the cPanel accounts on your server. You can use the search box to find the specific user account for which you want to change the password. Select the account by clicking on its username.
Step 4: Enter or Generate a New Password
After selecting the user, you will be taken to a new screen where you can set a new password.
- Enter Manually: You can type a new password into the provided fields.
- Generate Automatically: For a strong, secure password, it is highly recommended to use the Password Generator button. This will create a complex, random password that is difficult to guess.
Step 5: Save and Confirm
After you have entered or generated the new password, you must confirm it. A progress bar will show the new password’s strength. Ensure it meets your server’s minimum security requirements before proceeding.
Once you are satisfied with the new password, click the Change Password button. WHM will update the account with the new password, and you will receive a confirmation message.
