How to increase email storage size on cpanel

Email storage on a cPanel account is managed through a quota system, which limits the amount of disk space each email account can use. When an email account reaches its storage limit, it can no longer receive new messages. Increasing this quota is a simple and common task.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to increase email storage size on cPanel.

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

First, you need to log in to your cPanel account. You can typically do this by navigating to yourdomain.com/cpanel and entering your username and password.

Step 2: Go to “Email Accounts”

Once you are in the cPanel dashboard, scroll down to the Email section. Click on the Email Accounts icon.

Step 3: Find and Manage the Email Account

On the “Email Accounts” page, you will see a list of all the email addresses on your domain. Find the specific email account for which you want to increase the storage.

Click the Manage button next to that email address.

Step 4: Adjust the Allocated Storage Space

On the “Manage Email Accounts” page, scroll down to the Storage section. You will see two options:

  • Allocated Storage Space: This is where you can manually set a new quota. Enter a new, larger number in megabytes (MB) or gigabytes (GB). For example, if the current limit is 250 MB and you want to increase it to 1 GB, you would enter 1024 in the field.
  • Unlimited: If your hosting plan allows it, you can select the “Unlimited” option to remove the quota entirely. This will allow the email account to use as much space as is available on your hosting plan’s total disk space.

Important Note: The amount of space you can allocate to an email account is limited by the total disk space of your hosting package. If you are on a shared hosting plan with a disk space limit of, for example, 10 GB, the sum of all your email quotas and website files cannot exceed that limit.

Step 5: Save the Changes

After you have entered the new storage size or selected “Unlimited,” scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Update Email Settings button to save your changes.

The new quota will be applied immediately, and the email account will be able to receive new messages. If you were getting a “mailbox full” error, it should now be resolved.
