How to Create MySQL Profiles via WHM

You can create MySQL profiles via WHM to manage connections to local or remote database servers. This feature is particularly useful for administrators who need to offload database workloads from their web server to a separate, dedicated database server.

Step 1: Log in to WHM and Access MySQL Profiles

First, log in to your WebHost Manager (WHM) account. You’ll need root-level access for this. In the WHM search bar on the left, type “MySQL Profiles” and click on the Manage MySQL® Profiles option under the SQL Services section.

Step 2: Add a New Profile

On the “Manage MySQL® Profiles” page, you will see a list of existing profiles, including the default local profile. To add a new one, click the “+Add Profile” button.

Step 3: Configure the Profile Settings

A new form will appear for you to configure the profile. Here’s a breakdown of the key fields you’ll need to fill out:

  • Profile Name: Enter a descriptive name for the profile (e.g., Remote_DB_Server or High_Usage_DB).
  • Configuration Method: Choose how you want to connect to the server.
    • Automatically create a MySQL superuser via SSH: This is the easiest option. WHM will connect to the remote server via SSH, create a new MySQL superuser for its own use, and configure the connection automatically.
    • Manually enter an existing MySQL superuser’s credentials: Choose this if you already have a superuser set up on the remote database server.
  • Host Settings:
    • Host: Enter the IP address or hostname of the remote MySQL server.
    • SSH Port: Enter the SSH port for the remote server.
  • Login Information:
    • Username: Enter the SSH username for the remote server.
    • Authentication Method: Choose between Password and SSH Key. If you select Password, enter the password. If you select SSH Key, you will need to specify the key.
  • Escalation Method: This specifies how to gain root-level privileges to perform the necessary tasks. Options include sudo or su.

After you’ve filled in all the details, click the Save button.

Once created, you can then validate the profile to ensure WHM can connect to the server and activate it to make it the default database server for new cPanel accounts.
