How to Restart DNS Server from WHM

Restarting the DNS server from WHM is a straightforward process that is often necessary after making manual changes to DNS configurations or for general troubleshooting. The DNS server is a critical service responsible for translating domain names into IP addresses.

How to Restart the DNS Server from WHM

  1. Log in to WHM: Access your WebHost Manager as the root user.
  2. Navigate to Restart Services: In the search bar on the left-hand side, type “Restart Services” and click on the corresponding option.
  3. Select the DNS Service: From the list of services, click on DNS Server. This service may be named BIND, PowerDNS, or another nameserver depending on your server’s configuration.
  4. Confirm Restart: WHM will ask you to confirm that you want to restart the service. Click Yes to proceed.
  5. Wait for Confirmation: The server will take a moment to stop and restart the DNS service. A message will appear confirming that the restart was successful.

This method will reload the DNS zones and apply any changes that you have made. Keep in mind that a restart will briefly interrupt name resolution for your server’s domains, so it’s best to perform this action during off-peak hours if possible.
